A Guided Socratic Dialogue from the Free Society Coalition
Spend a few minutes engaging with one of the most influential sentences in the Declaration of Independence.
Through a guided conversation, you’ll look closely at the words, consider what they mean, and explore the ideas they contain. There are no right answers to give. The goal is to read carefully, think deeply, and engage important ideas with curiosity, respect, and thoughtful civil discourse.
You’ll be taken to a brief consent page before the conversation begins.

The Declaration Dialogue uses guided Socratic dialogue to help you slow down and engage directly with the text of the Declaration of Independence.
The conversation is structured, but it responds to what you say. The guide will move through portions of the sentence, ask follow-up questions, and regularly bring you back to the actual words of the Declaration.
What to Expect
- Most conversations take about 5–10 minutes.
- You’ll hear and see the text of the Declaration.
- The guide will ask questions and respond to what you say.
- There are no right or wrong answers.
- You do not need any prior knowledge of the Declaration.
- You may stop at any time.

This beta is designed to allow you to participate candidly and anonymously.
- No name is required.
- No employer, school, or location is requested.
- Audio is not stored.
- A written transcript is used only for anonymous research and analysis.
- Any optional opportunity to stay in touch with the Free Society Coalition is kept separate from what you say during the conversation.
